Making history in the wireless TPMS industry

It was time for a new generation of Tire Pressure Monitoring System

The concept for SST Wireless started in 2004, when our company took second prize in the New Ventures BC Competition to develop a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) for use in passenger cars. Things took a change when it was realized that several small engineering organizations similar to ours were in competition against multi-national automotive Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM), which was the market leader in that arena. Instead of joining the race to develop a cost effective TPMS for passenger vehicles, where we would be one of many flavours, we saw the potential to pursue development and research on commercial and industrial applications using our uniquely durable wireless heat and pressure sensors.

A significant leap in the industrial wireless TPMS market: Saving mines $5-10 Million per year, per mine

The decision to focus on industrial applications proved to be the right one. In 2007, SST Wireless demonstrated our TPMS to Kal Tire who immediately recognized the potential application in mining haul truck tires that they sell and service globally. These haul trucks are very unique in that they operate under extreme load weight and environmental conditions. In addition, tires for haul trucks are very expensive and face global supply shortages. Soon after, we entered in to a joint venture partnership with Kal Tire, which continues to this day. According to Kal Tire, our wireless Tire Pressure Monitoring System at a single mine can save between $5-10 million annually and increase safety for both the drivers and mine workers.

SST Wireless today: advanced tire heat and pressure sensors and specialized sensors for industrial uses

Today, SST Wireless designs and manufactures two distinct product lines. The first is our advanced Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems for transit and heavy industrial vehicles. Proper operation and maintenance of tires reduces greenhouse gases by about two tons per vehicle per year, which is a significant reduction in environmental footprint, not to mention a significant savings in operating costs. Our focus is on designing durable products for industrial grade applications. We build our wireless Tire Pressure Monitoring System for real-world scenarios where tires must withstand extreme temperatures, unpredictable weather conditions and significant wear and tear. Our approach in this sense makes our product unique from the competition, which is currently producing TPMS that are designed for lighter duty vehicles (such as passenger vehicles meant to carry less weight). By focusing on safety and durability for the most difficult applications, we are confident our wireless TPMS technology can now be used for a wider variety of vehicles.

Our second product line offers several wireless, non-vehicular industrial applications where heat and pressure monitoring is required. SST’s products continue to evolve in response to the need of our customers. For example, the heat sensors previously in use to measure critical temperatures at wood pellet mills had a maximum heat range of 95 Celsius which fell below actual operating temperatures. We addressed this by developing our latest sensors, which are now installed at wood pellet mills, which function up to and beyond 125 Celsius.

Soon to come from SST Wireless: sensors for automated jack lubricators

We will soon also introduce a new product to provide wireless control over automated jack lubricators to ensure proper oiling of essential equipment, especially in hard to reach or hazardous places.

Our dedicated team, working together with our partners, continue to focus on innovating and customizing our products to solve specific industry challenges.
